Event Details

England’s largest festival of history and culture celebrates its 25th anniversary with thousands of free events taking place across ten days. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore places not normally open to the public and learn more about the heritage on their doorstep. During the annual festival, doors are flung open at some of the country’s best-known attractions, as well as private and community spaces ranging from country houses to museum archives, theatres, churches and wildlife reserves. PICTURE: Go behind the scenes of The Abbey in Sutton Courtenay, a Grade 1 listed courtyard manor house just south of Abingdon now run as a retreat centre surrounded by four acres of wildlife-rich woods.

Take a guided tour of the house and gardens with two members of the residential lay community which cares for the building, grounds and guests. Wednesday September 18, 2.30-5pm with tours at 3pm and 4pm. Pre-booking required.
