Event Details

England’s largest festival of history and culture celebrates its 25th anniversary with thousands of free events taking place across ten days. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore places not normally open to the public and learn more about the heritage on their doorstep. During the annual festival, doors are flung open at some of the country’s best-known attractions, as well as private and community spaces ranging from country houses to museum archives, theatres, churches and wildlife reserves. Until September 22.

PICTURE: The National Trust’s Basildon Park near Reading celebrates its Indian heritage with a festival of light, with artist Rohit creating a hand-crafted rangoli artwork, expert team members giving curator talks, Indian inspired treats in the tearoom and a woodland walk littered with glittering fairy lights, lighting the way up to the house. Open from 10am on Saturday and Sunday September 21-22, with last entry at 4.15pm.
