Event Details

England’s largest festival of history and culture celebrates its 25th anniversary with thousands of free events taking place across ten days. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore places not normally open to the public and learn more about the heritage on their doorstep. During the annual festival, doors are flung open at some of the country’s best-known attractions, as well as private and community spaces ranging from country houses to museum archives, theatres, churches and wildlife reserves. Until September 22.

PICTURE: Waddesdon Hill Chapel at Upper Winchendon near Aylesbury is a simple Grade II* listed rustic Georgian chapel founded in 1792 and acquired some 30 years ago by the Friends of Friendless Churches, who rescue disused but beautiful places of worship of architectural and historical interest from demolition, decay and unsympathetic conversion. Open on Saturday and Sunday September 14-15 and 21-22, 10am-4pm.
